Wednesday June 1

Happy June to all our Families and Friends,
Here we are "June is busting out all over"!!!
And, we have made it to past the halfway point.  From here it's all "going homeward", we are at Whidbey Island, in the north west corner of the 48 contiguous states, not counting Alaska which wins in so many categories.
We went all around the Olympic peninsula and the Olympic National Park.  Driving highway 101 is a hoot, with all due respects to the spotted owl.  The road is very nicely kept, smooth for the most part, the scenery is one omg after another, and some of the views are truly surreal.
We drove south from Tacoma, where Ft Lewis is, through Olympia, which is the capital of Washington state, then across the bottom of the peninsula to Aberdeen where we picked up highway 101 to go around the park.

These beautifully full dogwood trees are outside the IHG Inns on Ft. Lewis

A typical highway leading to the peninsula

Some mountains had to be carved out to make the road

Lots and lots and lots of these logging trucks, taking harvested logs to the lumber mills.  The many social and cultural changes have cut the number of mills by over 70%, 7 out of 10 have closed on the Olympic peninsula in the past years.  The loss of jobs has hit the region very hard.

A "Cannabis Pharmacy"!  Who would've thunk it!

Highway 101

Aberdeen Washington, Gateway to the Olympics!

Mt Rainier dominates the local scenery

totally impressive!

You can drive up to the mountain if you so wish, many parks and such

The marker denoting the Starbucks No. 1, the First Starbucks Store, est. 1971

Yep, we were there!

Walls of Trees

Some darker than others, but all easy to drive and ride, and easy on the eyes.

I'll update tomorrow once the pictures catch up loading into the cloud.

Hope you have a great evening and we wish you all of God's great blessings!
