Thursday June 2

Today was a "down and rest, catch up" day...
We're on Whidbey Island, my old (27 years ago) stomping grounds.  I flew the SH-3 in "Mountain SAR", Search and Rescue.
We toured the Naval Air Station Whidbey and visited my old house.  The old house used to belong to the Navy, but now it seems it's been sold to someone and it's labeled "Private Property", the house has been boarded up, along with the house that's next door.  Many good and bitter sweet memories here.

The base has grown, still home to P-3 Orion aircraft for ASW, EF/A-18 Growler electronic warfare aircraft, and of course the new SH-60 helos for rescue work.
The town of Oak Harbor has grown too, with so many new homes, restaurants, stores and other amenities.  But the main roads are still the same.
We started at the northern end, Deception Pass.

The Deception Pass bridge joins Whidbey Island to the "mainland"...
built in the 1930's, during the Great Depression.

The shoreline of the Deception Pass State Park

A panoramic view

Lots of driftwood everywhere...

Some serenity and balance for all of us,

Both are surely the balance of my life,

A jewel among the rocks,

The best Jewel of my life,

The beach is rocky and strewn with driftwood,

The remains of a hundreds year old redwood,  HUNDREDS of years...

A young redwood and the Beauty!

The adventurer on the south end of Deception Pass Bridge, getting ready to walk the 1,400 feet to the north end over the 200 foot high bridge,

The south side shoreline,

On the middle of the bridge, with cars, trucks and other traffic wishing by,

The view to the east,

A sweep of the western side, looking out over the Puget Sound,

The ever brave adventurer with some wind in her beautiful hair,

Yeah, we made it to the north end!

Then we took a trip to visit the southern end of the island,

The ferry at Mulkiteo/Clinton landing,

The "Welcome to Whidbey Island" sign at the south ferry landing,

More green walls,

Lunch at a nice Mexican restaurant, the El Cazador,

Delicious and Beautiful!!

Then we visited "old town" Oak Harbor,

Tomorrow, a second day of little adventures...

Check in and see what adventures "The Adventurer" goes on...
