Saturday June 4

Hello Family and Friends,
Happy Weekend to you.
Hope you have a few hours to relax, rejuvenate, and reflect.

Today was a travel day!

We are underway again, leaving Whidbey Island for our interim stop of Spokane, Washington.  It's a short drive of just 6 hours, but it gets us within a reasonable distance to Yellowstone tomorrow.  We will be staying in Bozeman Montana, about an hour from the park, but that's ok.  We plan on traveling tomorrow, resting, and then a whole day at the park.  Should be wonderful, full, and never boring.

Early morning leaving Whidbey Island, coming into Anacortes

Some fog and low clouds in the Skagit Valley

Picking up I90 out of Redmond

180 plus miles from Seattle to Spokane

The western side of the Cascades is verdant, lush and lots of trees due to the abundant rain

Lots of tall pines and evergreens,

As we climb the Cascades the biomes slowly changes

Fewer and fewer tall pines,

Coming down into one of the inter valleys, still pretty with lots of trees,

Over we go the last hump near Snoqualmish Pass,

Descending pass some birches,

Lake Chelan is very nice,

Still some snow left on the higher peaks,

Glacial lakes,

Over halfway down the mountains,

You can see it's a whole lot more bare on the eastern slopes,

Another exit on the way to Spokane,

We stopped at the first big lake after crossing the high plateau,

The space between the Cascades and the Rocky Mountain foothills where Spokane is located
is covered with huge farms that use irrigation machinery to grow acres and acres of crops,
it's really incongruous to see the verdant, lush farms surrounded by the natural landscape of scrub,

Finally got to our motel just outside Spokane and stopped at the Rusty Moose restaurant for lunch.
Impressive decor and theme, the food, not so much, the service, meh!

This big "Freddie" has more good points than....

Then we went into downtown Spokane and found the Riverfront Park
which runs along the Spokane River.  It was dry, hot, and nice to see the water.

There are some nice waterfalls along this short stretch of the river,

They even have damed a short section to create a small recreation lake,

There was a custom car show... a 69 Camaro RS, Sweet!

A 57 Chevy custom, beautiful!  The car too!

The Spokane Falls

The upper falls

Wow!!! Quite the view!

Many flowers and highlights,

A display about the Riverfront Park... Well done Spokane,

An interesting fact that I didn't know was that the 1974 World's Fair was held here in Spokane.  The park has makers for each of the various pavilions.  They have used the resulting resources and the park in a great manner, keeping a nice park for all the citizens!

We will head out early tomorrow.  It's a longer stretch over the Rockies through Idaho and into Montana.  Looking forward to our visit to Yellowstone and perhaps Jackson Hole Wyoming.

Hope you are all well and you are having a great start to your summer.
God bless you and keep you,
see you tomorrow!
