Friday May 27

Happy Friday Family and Friends,
Day 3 in San Diego.  Oh golly I wish we had another week here, but alas all good things must end, some sooner than later, and this wonderfully incredible visit to San Diego must end and we head out for then next destination - Sequoia National Park - tomorrow morning.
But, oh the places we went today!

We started by revisiting the Imperial Beach, the Southwestern Most City in USA!

Then we went up I5, up Mission Beach, to La Jolla.  This is
one of the many small public parks in the city.
Yeah, that's the Pacific in the background!

Some beautiful Spring flowers along the beach.

Here we are at the world famous La Jolla Beach.  It's very picturesque for sure!
Of course my Sweetheart makes it look even better!

Did you know that La Jolla Beach is a wild life sanctuary?
There are dozens of seals, several different species it seems, lazing about the whole beach.
They were loud and raucous this morning, with some of the older ones barking at the younger ones.

If you look closely you will be able to see a bunch of seals on those rocks.
Well camouflaged don't you think?

Here's some who were bunch up in a warming huddle just yards from us.
Very sociable for sure.

Another view of the Pacific and La Jolla Beach.
Mornings along the coast are cool, about low 60's to start and the Pacific
keeps things cools along the coast anyways.  Weather folks say the desert which is just 30 miles over the Sierra Nevada mountains will hit 104 degrees plus next week!

After a nice drive through La Jolla, we went to "Old Town" where San Diego got started,
There is a specific area set aside to preserve San Diego History... a la Williamsburg and others.
There are a lot of good historical places but even more shops, stores, and guess what kind of restaurants?  Did you say Mexican... oh, you're so smart!!!

So we started with some of the historical places, but most don't open until 10:00.  So we walked around some and got to see more buildings.

It's like going to Mexico without going across the border.  Nearly every tourist bait items are available here in Old Town.  Don't see it?  Just Ask!

Yeah, that guy's a real stiff, cuz anyone with any live senses would be looking at my Sweetheart!

Did I tell you the stores have a ton, ok, TONS, of things from old Mexico and other places south?  No?  Well, see above.  Nice reproductions for sure.

Not just stores, but real reproductions of past historical buildings or even full restorations.  This is the print shop, newspaper, and general store.

Guess which restaurant we chose?  We chose this one because

These two fine ladies were hand making real, fresh off the hot plate tortillas!

Yes, yes, the food was very good, the tortillas were indeed fresh, and the corn tortillas I could eat all day long!  They were just right consistency and flavor and went well with our brunch.

All kinds of candy, but alas we can't indulge for good reasons!
Then we visited an outstanding museum of Law and Order in San Diego.

And, they finally caught her... guilty of being too kind, too nice, too goody two shoes, too gentle, too sweet, to supportive and worst of all, being just absolutely perfect.  So they threw her in the slammer.  I had to really plead my case and luckily was able to get her bailed out!!!

Heck, they said sorry, and even let her ride their Harley cruiser!

Well, things were getting rough, so we went to Italy.
Again, lots and lots of restaurants and shops.

Such good looking restaurants and the Italian food, but we had just finished so we ate with our eyes!

Very Nice decorations and set up!

So, where do you think the Mexican Consulate would be in San Diego?  Of course, in "Little Italy"!
Makes complete sense to me!

A short sit by a fountain, well, it's "Little Italy" and it has to have fountains!

We arrived after a short drive down several streets at the Big Bay, San Diego Bay, and the famous Embarcadero area.  The area has sever functioning, working piers, but also houses the Maritime museum, a huge seafood restaurant, and most important of all....

The USS MIDWAY!  A full blown aircraft carrier and she's right there for all to visit.  There was quite a crowd and she was alive with visitors and presenters and displays of nearly everything Naval Aviation related... from the glorious USS Midway, to aircraft that flew on her, some that didn't, and displays about the Navy, Navy life, and Naval Aviation.  Wonderful place to spend many days.

One of the all time great planes, the F-4U Corsair.  Doesn't she look absolutely gorgeous?
The plane does too!

Well, it was a long day, with miles of walking and lots of sweet memories.

Tomorrow is another day, a travel and visit day.  We head to Sequoia NP, then to Merced Ca for the night's stay.  Sunday is Yosemite day and it should be just absolutely crowded with Memorial Day traffic.  But, that's ok, we are retired and we have time and each other and our Families and good Friends.  Life is good, God is Great!
